Islands of Time
a project by Niccolò MasiniCuratorial accompaniment & collaboration by Renata Zas

Islands of Time is a research project by Niccolò Masini (IT) that took him to travel into Western Sahara, Genova, Islas Salina & Argentina. There, Niccolò explored around questions about geographical limits and the islands of time generated by migratory displacements in different times of human history (focusing in the end of XIXth C and in XXth & XXIst C). Since mid 2020’s I participate as a curator in Niccolò’s research, developing different roles: as interlocutor & curatorial accompaniment throughout these years, as a producer -together with Pablo Caligaris- during his stay in Argentina, and as a writer for his exhibition at Salina Grande (Amanei, 2022). At the end of 2021, we organised a talk at the Swiss House in Buenos Aires to open up his investigation to the public. We are also projecting an exhibition of this investigation towards 2023.

Living in a state of uncertainty or inhabiting a state of plot. We just learn to believe what it presents ourselves to be real
Collaborative speculative essay by Nicolás Gullotta - Renata ZasThis project is an attempt to set up an essay in the form of a dialogue, opening its contingency into the encounter. It is a kind of writing that mobilizes thinking in a new way. A way closer to uncertainty rather than certainty. Embracing this paradigm, two starring fictional characters will merge to become one philosophical text, working in a pilot or plot-mode.
Within this practice, the artist and the curator started this collaboration between the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. The first step of this collaborative practice was materialised in a dialogic essay. This exchange kept evolving and transformed into a work in progress
About Zas & Gullotta’s duo
The artist and the curator have worked together building this plot since the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. The first step was materialised in a dialogic essay for a seminar titled Geopoetics conducted by professor Kodwo Eshun in London. Notwithstanding, the exchange kept evolving and transforming into a work in progress that could take more than one form.
Essay: Living in a state of uncertainty of inhabiting a state of plot. We just learn to believe what it presents ourselves to be real, Renata Zas and Nicolás Gullotta

ENGLISHBAB is a project incubator promoting cultural and experiential exchange within the arts. BAB fosters horizontal teamwork and collaboration across the globe. Our main interest is to encourage a cultural dialog between art workers and thinkers from Buenos Aires and Berlin, and to broaden the possibilities of horizontal work and collaboration beyond borders, while -as Suely Rolnik proposes-, decolonizing our unconscious.
BAB proposes a series of talks facing the art world.
We use various forms of speech like panel sessions, ex-cathedra expert lectures, alongside with interviews and a space offered to entried of musicians and poets to capture a topic and make it visible as a discourse.
BAB is a project by Valeria Geritzen & Renata Zas

Our first event: “The Phoenix”
Especially pointing on intercontinental and intercultural aspects, BAB n.1 presents “Latam eyes on Europe – European eyes on Latam”
“The Pheonix, New Ways of Collaboration” held at RAH Geyersbach, focused on the question: How do we want to live the (art) world in the present and the future?
“…looking at collaborative and horizontal practices and projects, within ways of leaving our egos aside; and decolonized thinking: Latin American eyes on Europe and European eyes on Latin America.”
BAB makes use of the ttt structure (talk-think-text):
First, we hear a talk together,
Then, with all guests/visitors, we work on the presented content and lastly,
We see what kind of “text” develops.
The workshops take around 15 minutes – then we get back together to share and point out on gains and pains.
